A woman from Nuwakot district has been languishing behind the bars for more than two months for lack of bail amount. Apsara Panta, 25, of Likhu Rural Municipality-6 was arrested on the charge of polygamy.
She was arrested after a complaint against her was filed at a local police station for getting married with Ram Sharan Bhetwal,64, who was already married. Bhetwal was released from prison on bail while Panta, unable to afford bail amounting to Rs 5,000, continues to spend time behind the bars.
The District Court in Nuwakot on December 22, 2018, had ordered the release of both –Bhetwal and Panta for bail of Rs 15,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. As Bhetwal did not post the bail amount for her release, Panta remains in prison.
Since the case is sub judice and the legal provision dictates that those unable to post bail in the sub judice case shall be held in custody, said District Jail’s Jailor Tanka Chimoriya. (RSS)
